"Enslaved by Scientology"
"Obligations to deliver my goods when I rebelled I do '
MASSIMO NUMA
TURIN

Segregated, deprived of money and all their possessions, forced to
work for months without pay and forced to become a follower of
Scientology. The story - sad and distressing - to Marina (nome di
fantasia), a professional 31 years in Turin, will be the center of a
criminal investigation of the prosecution. In a lengthy complaint,
submitted by his lawyer, Loredana Gemelli, tells of a long "ordeal",
organized in every detail, from two suspected faithful of the Church
of Scientology: a man and a woman. He entrepreneur, her secretary. The
first important a role within the headquarters of the North-East, and
the second would be a "fanatical disciple" of L. Ron Hubbard, founder
of Scientology, and also accomplice implements psychological abuse and
harassment of any kind.

"In May 2009, X began to speak to the organization of Scientology,
which had become a devout follower, advising the membership given the
great benefits that claimed to have received ... claimed to be a
"clear", often on the road, directly at the site of Copenhagen ...».
"After the first month, the two began to offer me constantly reading
books on the philosophy of the organization ...». And again: 'In
particular, after the first month of work (in a company run
dall'adepto) the two began an obsessive treatment, designed to
indoctrinate you, reading the books had become mandatory, and later I
was forced to write reports on what I had done wrong in life. I had to
do after work, between 18 and 24, in the presence of the aspirant. "

Nightmare. A Navy took away everything: credit cards, checks, jewelry,
kept in the safe company. Give it 50 euro a week for food. Deprived of
all autonomy, watched 24 to 24 hours. In the end, reduced to a
skeleton, "I weighed 39 pounds, slept only four hours a night, always
under fire for its poor record working ...».

"... Later, as I tried to rebel, indoctrination became more urgent,
now I was forced to read books on Scientology in the presence of the
two subjects, who then asked me for an explanation of the bed and if
not understanding, I had to reread the same passages over and over
again ... They told me that the girl who had worked eleven years in
that office, was dismissed because he refused to follow the theories
of Scientology ...».

Allegations heavy. At last, after months of pressure, while the
working time becomes more and more exhausting and diktat to study
Hubbard's books more and more indispensable, the presumed 'clear' pass
attack. Wants money: just a check for 30 thousand euros, as security
for costs that "he was saying." Navy unable to resist. And they force
her to call home to ask them to send a new checkbook and credit cards,
because those who had stolen had meanwhile expired.

The practitioner tries to rebel, does not want to be subject to the
regime of slavery and psychological violence, the woman who is
watching her while she "now exhausted," he told her with tears want to
go, he loses all control, "After a fight I grabbed the neck and
slammed me against the wall, and immediately stated that he did it for
my own good and she had lived the same experience. "

Salvation comes the night of July 31. The parents of Marina,
suspicious phone call from her daughter, rushed in that city in the
North East and bundled freed from his alleged persecutors. What would
have demanded more money. "After returning to Turin, faeces block the
ATM and credit cards. I discovered that, in all that time, I was
credited as wages for my work, only 700 euros. Damage and insult.

Scientology calls "Clear" the human being free of his injuries (and
conscious of his "reactive mind"). The road to the state of 'Clear'
goes through several levels of 'auditing', a technique one-to-one
relationship between a practitioner (called auditors) who asks
questions and a patient "(called preclear). The levels of auditing,
these "degrees", as all the courses and services of Scientology, are
charged.

The Church of Turin: "We are not aware of these facts'
The Church of Scientology of Torino, requested for a replica to the
content dell'esposto-complaint, he said, through the press secretary,
Joseph Stork, head of public affairs, with a terse e-mail, "We can not
respond in detail not knowing the facts. Roughly speaking there
appears to fall into the attitude towards the Church of Scientology
which often belongs more to the editors of newspapers to life. Besides
the ease with which the newspaper has informed us that he could not
help because they have more information in a document not disclosed
investigation a copy of which appears particularly serious even in
balancing the right to report. "

From what I can tell, this case sounds a lot like the French trial
that just concluded. I do hope her weight dropped to only 39 kilos
(not pounds), and that somebody who knows Italian can clean up the
machine translation.

TURIN

Isolated, deprived of her money and of everything she possessed,
forced to work for months without pay and induced into becoming a
follower of Scientology. This is the story - sad and disturbing - of
Marina (not her real name), a 31-year-old professional from Turin, and
it will be at the center of a criminal investigation by the public
prosecutor's office. In a lengthy complaint submitted by her lawyer,
Loredana Gemelli, she tells of a long ordeal whose every detail was
organized by two presumed followers of the Church of Scientology: a
man and a woman. The man is an entrepreneur, the woman a secretary.
The man is reputed to have an important role at one of the
headquarters of Scientology for Northeast Italy, while the woman is
said to be a "fanatical disciple" of L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of
Scientology, and to have acted as both accomplice and perpetrator in a
reign of psychological violence and torment.

"In May 2009, X began to tell me about the Scientology organization,
of which he had become a devout follower, advising me to join because
of the great benefits he said he had received ... He said he was a
'clear', often had to travel, and was directed from the headquarters
in Copenhagen..." "After the first month, the two began constantly
showing me literature about the organization's philosophy...". This
continued: "In particular, after my first month of work (at a company
run by the man), the two began an obsessive treatment designed to
indoctrinate me; reading the books became compulsory and I was later
forced to write reports on what I had done wrong in life. I had to do
this after work, between 6 P.M. and midnight, with the woman present."

A Nightmare. They took everything from Marina - credit cards, checks,
jewelry - for keeping in the company safe. They gave her 50 euros a
week for food. She was deprived of all freedom and kept under
surveillance 24 hours a day. In the end, she was reduced to a
skeleton: "I weighed 39 kilos [86 pounds], I slept only four hours a
night and was continually subjected to accusations for the poor
results of my work..."

"... Later, as I tried to rebel, the indoctrination became more
intense and I was forced to read Scientology books in the presence of
the man and the woman, who then asked me to explain what I read and,
if I didn't understand, I had to reread the same passages over and
over again... They told me that the girl who had worked eleven years
in that office was dismissed because she refused to follow the
theories of Scientology ..."

Serious Allegations. Finally, after months of pressure, as the work
schedule became ever more exhausting and the coercion to study
Hubbard's books became more and more relentless, the so-called "clear"
went on the warpath. He wanted money: a check for 30,000 euros, as
collateral for the expenses that he was "supporting". Marina managed
to resist. Then they forced her to call her parents and ask them to
send a new checkbook and credit card, because the card they had taken
from her had expired.

Marina tried to rebel. She wanted no longer to submit to this regime
of slavery and psychological violence. In a "fit of exhaustion",
Marina tearfully told the woman who was watching her that she wanted
to leave; the woman went totally out of control. "After we had an
argument, she would grab me by the neck and slam me against the wall.
Immediately afterward, she would say that she was doing this for my
own good and that she had been through the same experience."

Marina was rescued on the night of July 31. Her parents, alarmed by
the telephone call from their daughter, rushed to the city in
Northeast Italy where she was held and freed her from her alleged
persecutors. They allegedly demanded even more money. "After returning
to Turin, I took steps to block my ATM card and my credit card. I
discovered that, during this whole period of time, only 700 euros were
credited as pay for my work." Thus was insult added to injury.

Scientology defines a "Clear" as a human being who is free from trauma
(and aware of his "reactive mind"). The road toward the state of
"Clear" consists of various levels of "auditing", a one-on-one
technique between a practitioner (called an "auditor") who asks
questions and a patient (called a "preclear"). The levels of auditing,
called "grades", cost money, as do all Scientology courses and
services.

The Church of Turin: "We are not aware of these facts"

Asked to respond to the content of the complaint, the Church of
Scientology of Turin replied through its press secretary, Giuseppe
Cicogna, head of public affairs, in a terse e-mail: "We cannot provide
an educated response because we are not aware of the facts. Generally
speaking, this appears to reflect an attitude towards the Church of
Scientology which is more prevalent among newspaper editors than in
real life. Furthermore, the casual manner in which the newspaper has
informed us that it could not provide additional information because
it is contained in a document which is covered by the confidentiality
requirements of the investigation, but from which quotes were taken,
appears particularly serious, even when it comes to balancing the
freedom of the press."
